Our organization (Association La Porte Ouverte) provides support for people suffering from the effects of long term illness whether as a sufferer or as a carer. We do not offer any nursing or palliative care or domestic help but may be able to direct people in need to existing sources of help and assistance.
To enable us to accomplish this we have a team of volunteers who offer their many skills to help us achieve our objectives.
We operate a drop-in centre each Wednesday morning between 10am. and midday in the town of Civray (department 86) at 18 rue Pierre Pestureau (click the 'How to Find Us link).
We have established a network of skilled listeners to respond to particular needs or crises especially Bereavement, Family Crises, Addiction and Loneliness. Contact with this service may be made through this website or by our regularly monitored telephone answering service on 05 49 87 97 36.
Our lending library of English books, audio tapes, video’s and DVD’s is very popular and membership costs only 3 euros per annum.
Our work is supported wholly by voluntary giving and by the efforts of our volunteers.
